An exhibition of award-winning work, “AIGA 365: Year in Design 29”, is coming to China! This is the first time an exhibition of this type will be mounted in Asia. It will open at the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum on October 24, 2009; after three weeks in Beijing the exhibition will travel within China.
The exhibition shows excellence in ten different categories including poster design, package design, book design, etc. For the “AIGA Annual Design Competition”, a jury selected 155 outstanding entries from more than 4,700 entries received. For “AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers”, a jury selected the year’s best from more than 900 entries received.
One of the high points of the exhibition is the interaction between the works and the museum itself, designed by Japanese architecture master Arata Isozaki. The building’s elements — dot, line, surface, light and shadow — achieve their most rich and delicate expression on the top floor, where “AIGA 365” will be mounted.
A 360-page catalogue, also entitled “AIGA 365: Year in Design 29”, will accompany the exhibition. Through this exceptionally well-printed and rich volume, visitors can further understand the role of the designer, and the value of design to business, culture and society at large.
